An innovative study finds a link between our heart health and the health of our gut, highlighting the importance of physical exercise for keeping both at optimal levels.
Exercise is key to maintaining a healthy gut.
If the latest medical research has taught us anything, it's that our gut bacteria hold the key to our health. The trillions of micro-organisms that live in our gut seem to control every aspect of our well-being, from the size of our belly to the risk of chronic disease and even that of mental health conditions.

So, it's essential that we maintain a healthy gut. The bacteria we host inside us can keep us healthy and happy, but we must return the favor.

Keeping a diverse range of microbes ensures that we have more of the "friendly" bacteria that benefit our body. Having a healthful and varied diet is perhaps the most obvious way to do so, but new research adds a vital ingredient: a good workout.

Keeping our heart healthy and fit through physical exercise may also increase the number of beneficial gut bacteria, suggests the new study. Ryan Durk, of the Department of Kinesiology at the San Francisco State University in California, is the first author of the new paper , which was published in the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism. Studying gut and heart health Durk and colleagues examined the cardiovascular fitness of 20 men and 17 women, using a treadmill test. 




The researchers also determined the participants' body fat composition by asking them to step inside a so-called BOD — a chamber that can measure a person's fat mass and their lean mass, using air displacement plethysmography.

If Not For This One Thing…I would Have Lost My Husband Of 10 Years  Due To My Disgusting Stretch Marks”



You won’t believe that stretch marks almost ruined my marriage of 10 years.

I know many of you ladies and even guys have some stretch marks in some parts of your body but my own was worst, I mean “The Worst”…in fact my case was as “Serious As Cancer”.

It all started when I was pregnant with my first child. In the third trimester, stretch marks had already started appearing all over my body.

My upper arms , my thighs, my abdomen, my lap, my back side in short everywhere was all taken over with stretch marks. I taught it was just part of the pregnancy.

But surprisingly….”I Was Lying To Myself Big Time”

After childbirth it became so worse that I felt I was actually “Cursed With Stretch Marks”.

Mere looking at my body was irritating, all those  ugly red  lines just made me want to puke, talk less of outsiders  who were looking at me with disgust written all over their face.

My self esteem was shattered, I couldn’t wear my bum shorts, and sleeveless tops like the way I used to rock them before, because it just exposed my nauseating stretch marks for the whole world to see.

Anytime I wore them, people would just be staring at my arms and legs..it was so obvious and I was  so ashamed  that I would run back home in shame and change into another dress.

In the bus my obvious stretch marks instantly became a hot topic by all those amebo girls who just like gossiping and couldn’t mind their business.

I started wearing ‘Only Mary Amaka Dress” to cover my body.

I was embarrassed to the bone, depression struck me like bolt of thunder.

Worst of all my husband who used to admire my skin for the past 10 years started looking at me “One Kin, One Kin”

During love making, he used to caress my skin telling me how much he loved me.

But now, he angrily made a statement that shocked me to the bones…

He said……

When I heard It, I felt so dirty and inadequate, I felt I was no longer enough for my husband.

How to extract that fancy whatsapp pictures and video on your phone!!!!

HOW TO SAVE WHATSAPP STATUS(PICTURES AND VIDEOS).


Whatsapp status is not a new thing anymore nowadays because almost everybody using either android and IOS devices have Whatsapp app installed on their mobile phones and the new and updated version has a new feature which is the whatsapp status where you can update your status either by typing whatever it's on your mind or a message you wanted to pass across to your contacts. The other form you can pass your message is either through uploading of your pictures or a maximum of 30 seconds video per status where you can have as many as possible 30 seconds videos.

And recently, it's not a new thing that you admire or like a particular picture or video posted by one of your friends in your contacts list and you viewed it.. Can I tell you something here: For the fact you were able to view that picture or watch that particular video... Did you believe it's already downloaded on your phone automatically???
I guess you don't know, that's why you still ask Tobi or Daniel to send you that picture or video and yet, he/she will be forming like one big boss or God like that...... Don't mind him/her

I will give you the simple steps that you can use to extract that picture or video from your phone and you too can view it on your phone and do whatever you like with it....
The first step is;
1. Go to the file manager on your phone , Click the 3 dot icon at the top most of the interface and click on "Show hidden files"
 


2. Go to your Whatsapp folder and click on it.




N. B: If your whatsapp is installed on your phone, then you check your whatsapp folder on the Phone storage and if it's installed on your memory card, check for your whatsapp folder on the Memory card storage.
3. Click on "Media"

4. Click on "Statuses"

This is where you will see all the pictures and videos you have viewed in the last 24 hours till the present time.  Well, here might be a little bit difficult in looking for a picture you wanted to extract.  But here is my little trick I used, the recent pictures I viewed might be close to the end of the folder, so I just scroll down and started checking it till I find it. The next thing i do is to rename the file for easy accessibility.

N.B: you can also select videos and rename it for easy accessibility. You can also select multiple files at a time. All you have to do is just to mark it and copy.





















5. After finding it, you can just select them, mark them and then copy, Viola!!!



























6. The next step is to Paste your copied files to any destination of yours i.e back to the previous folders where you can view them and PASTE..... Chikena




....................... Finally, you got that specific video and picture you like on that guy or lasy whatsapp status.

Alcohol;more damaging to brain health than marijuana



With marijuana legalization on the rise, an
increasing number of studies are exploring the drug's potential harms and benefits. 

However, a new study suggests that when it comes to brain health, alcohol is more damaging.
Researchers say that alcohol causes more damage to the brain than marijuana does.

Scientists at the University of Colorado Boulder conducted a review of existing imaging data that looked at the effects of alcohol and marijuana, or cannabis, on the brain. Their findings linked alcohol consumption with long-term changes to the structure of white matter and gray matter in the brain.
The use of marijuana, however, seemed to have no significant long-term effects on brain structure.
Study leader Rachel Thayer, of the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of Colorado Boulder, and colleagues recently reported their results in the journal Addiction.
It is estimated that around 22.2 million people in the United States have used marijuana in the past month, making it "the most commonly used illicit drug" in the country.
Across the U.S., however, it is increasingly becoming legalized for both medicinal and recreational purposes. As a result of this changing legislation, researchers have been trying to find out more about how marijuana may benefit health, as well as the damage that it could cause. Last year, for example, Medical News Today reported on a study linking marijuana use to a greater risk of psychosis in teenagers, while another study claimed that the drug is "worse than cigarettes" for cardiovascular health. On the other side of the coin, researchers have found that cannabinoids which are the active compounds in marijuana could help to prevent migraine , and a more recent study linked marijuana use to an increased sex drive.

      Marijuana vs Alcohol: Which is worse? 

For this latest study, Thayer and colleagues sought to learn more about how marijuana use affects the brain. Study co-author Kent Hutchison, also of the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience, notes that to date, studies that have investigated this association have produced mixed results.

"When you look at these studies going back years," he explains, "you see that one study will report that marijuana use is related to a reduction in the volume of the hippocampus. The next study then comes around, and they say that marijuana use is related to changes in the cerebellum.

"The point is that there's no consistency across all of these studies in terms of the actual brain structures."



With the aim of closing the gap on this inconsistency, the researchers conducted a new analysis on existing brain imaging data. They looked at how marijuana use affects white matter and gray matter in the brain, and how its effects compare with another "drug" that we have become so accustomed to alcohol.

Gray matter is the tissue on the brain's surface that primarily consists of nerve cell bodies. White matter is the deeper brain tissue that contains myelinated nerve fibers, which are branches protruding from nerve cells that transmit electrical impulses to other cells and tissues.

The team notes that any reduction in the size of white or gray matter or a loss in their integrity can lead to impairments in brain functioning.


"With alcohol, we've known it's bad for the brain for decades," notes Hutchison. "But for cannabis, we know so little." Marijuana use had no impact.


The study included the brain images of 853 adults who were aged between 18 and 55 years and 439 teenagers between the ages of 14 and 18. All participants varied in their use of
alcohol and marijuana.

The researchers found that alcohol use particularly in adults who had been drinking for many years was associated with a reduction in gray matter volume, as well as a reduction in the integrity of white matter. Marijuana use, however, appeared to have no impact on the structure of gray or white matter in either teenagers or adults.

Based on these findings, the researchers believe that drinking alcohol is likely to be much more harmful to brain health than using marijuana.

While marijuana may also have some negative consequences, it definitely is nowher near the negative consequences of alcohol."

When it comes to the possible benefits of marijuana use, however, Thayer and her team note that the jury is still out, and further research is needed to reach some conclusions.
